Under the umbrella of the non-profit organization S-Cape, a dedicated and diverse team of permanent staff and volunteers has been working for survivors of human trafficking since 2010. The majority of clients are victims of sexual exploitation in South Africa. The organization is based in Cape Town and clients are referred to S-Cape by various partners, including social services and police from across South Africa. Since its inception, S-Cape has assisted 95 women and children with its holistic programs, liberating them from exploitative living and working conditions.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

S-Cape includes both a counseling center and a shelter. Affected women are given the opportunity for physical, emotional as well as psychological healing. As part of the healing process, important basic needs are met, and psychosocial and legal assistance is provided. The women usually stay between 2 to 3 years in the programs of S-CAPE. Little by little, they are empowered to lead self-determined lives.<\/p>

S-Cape’s holistic approach is based, among other things, on the education component. This is because survivors of human trafficking often have no formal schooling or other qualifications. They are therefore particularly at risk of becoming victims of exploitation and human trafficking. Central to sustainable protection against human trafficking and sexual exploitation is therefore raising awareness, imparting knowledge and skills, and enabling qualifications that pave the way for victims to lead self-determined lives.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Many survivors of sexual exploitation have no education. Many also dropped out of school early or even never attended and cannot read or write. Education gives shelter residents the power to change their lives, to make them realize that their past does not define them. No one can take away their education. Thus, a sustainable and self-determined way of life is ensured and the vicious circle is broken!<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
